Dr. Mevan Gooneratne has been a Consultant Anaesthetist at the Royal London Hospital for over 10 years. His clinical interests include anaesthesia for vascular, gynaecological oncology and other major abdominal-pelvic, high-risk surgeries. He is the lead for pre-assessment at the Royal London Hospital as well as the North-East London lead for perioperative care. His avid involvement in the perioperative management of the high-risk surgical patient has resulted in strong affiliations with both the Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCOA) as well as the Centre of Perioperative Care (CPOC). He is widely published in the arena of perioperative medicine and is an author for the Royal College’s national document for the ‘Guidance for the Provision of Anaesthesia (GPAS)’. He also holds various clinical leadership roles within Barts Health, all within the perioperative setting. Outside of the clinical setting, Mevan has completed a BSc in Philosophy as well as a MA in Medical Ethics and Law, both from Kings College London. These qualifications have supported his interests in end of life care, shared decision-making and the process of informed consent.
